How Live Dealer Poker Works

Live dealer poker plays out similarly to most other forms of poker, such as online poker and in-person poker. 

The main difference here is that instead of being in a physical brick-and-mortar casino or having a Random Number Generator (RNG) deal the cards, a real dealer is sat at a table in a studio operating the game as they would in a real casino. They shuffle and deal cards, but they do so in front of a camera.

The footage is live-streamed to the online casino, and players that join the game see the feed on their devices. 

Players place bets and make decisions using an overlay on their screen, and the input is fed to the dealers, who can then react accordingly to move the game along.

In live online poker, the players can chat with one another using a chat function. The dealer can also see the chat and may respond at times.

Online poker is used to describe poker games that run on an RNG rather than an actual dealer (i.e. playing against a computer). So, the RNG works to generate random number sequences that correspond to specific cards in the deck and deals out the cards randomly.

Live poker is also played in online casinos, except it uses a live stream of a real dealer that shuffles cards and deals them out on a real table. Live Three Card Poker

We have live 3 card poker available to play on our site, simply log in to your account – or create one if you don’t yet have one – and load up a game.

In 3 card poker, you play against the dealer rather than other players. The aim of the game is to make the best poker hand possible with 3 cards.

You start by placing an ante wager, and an optional side bet named pair plus, if you think the hand you receive will be a pair or better.

Three cards are dealt face-down to every player and the dealer. You look at your hand to decide whether you wish to play it or not. If you fold, the hand is over, and the dealer takes your ante wager and pair plus (if you placed it). If you choose to play the hand, then you place a play wager that is equal to the ante wager.

All cards are then turned over to see who has the better hand. However, the dealer only plays their hand if they have a Queen-high hand or better. If they don’t, the play wager is returned to you. 

If the dealer does have a hand of Queen-high or better, then the hands are compared. If you have a better hand than the dealer, then you receive an even-money payout on the ante bet and play wager. But if not, the dealer collects your ante bet and play wager.

The pair plus side bet is determined separately from the comparison of hands; it is solely on whether you have a hand containing pairs or better.

Texas Hold’em

The aim of Texas Hold’em is to use your hole cards in conjunction with the community cards to make the best possible five-card poker hand.

The hole cards are the two face-down cards dealt to you at the start of the game, and the community cards are the ones placed in the middle of the table throughout the rounds of the game that all players at the table work with.

Each round involves players matching or raising the bet to stay in the game or folding (dropping out). The first round is bets placed based on the hole cards only – this round is called the ‘pre-flop’. 

Then, 3 community cards are dealt, and this round is called the ‘flop’. After that, another community card is dealt; this round is the ‘turn’. Finally, a fifth and final community card is drawn, and this stage is labelled the ‘river’.

Following the river, any players still in the game reveal their hole cards to determine who has the best hand and wins the game. You can also win this game by being the last man standing prior to the showdown if all other players fold.
